We had the most picture-perfect, blue sky November day for Kristina & Carl’s Supreme Court elopement on Friday! This beautiful couple has been a dream to work with and their celebration was delightful.

Carl & Kristina met in Nashville and their relationship has survived a move to DC, Carl serving in the armed forces and being separated for nearly a year, and new jobs. Hearing their vows and learning more about their relationship made it so clear that they were made for one another! And if it wasn’t already abundantly clear that they are perfect for each other, they BOTH wrote in Rick Astley lyrics as a part of their vows to Rick Roll one another – a total surprise to both of them. I couldn’t stop laughing.

A few other highlights for the wedding day:

I’m not sure if you heard, but we had a US presidential election a few weeks ago. This means things in DC have been a little wild. During the ceremony, we were joined by some peaceful protesters who were more than excited to film the wedding on their phones and cheer for Kristina and Carl! It was unexpected and, admittedly, pretty entertaining once we knew they wouldn’t interfere with the ceremony. Also, I nearly lost my camera bag (shout out to Matt!) – this has honestly never happened before so clearly I was extra-distracted by this beautiful couple in this beautiful setting! I also have to give a shoutout to the bride herself, Kristina, who designed her bouquet herself using silk flowers from JoAnn’s sale bin . . . possibly the most impressive DIY I’ve ever seen!

Completely unrelated, Kristina has two adorable birds that she brought to the celebration: Pepper & Tilly. I’ve never seen someone as passionate about birds as Kristina, and I think it’s awesome. I’ve also never seen a bird in a harness and leash, but there’s a first time for everything. I enjoyed it immensely. Kristina and Carl finished their celebration with cupcakes at the DC War Memorial as the sun was setting. It was SO much fun photographing this intimate DC elopement and I’m thrilled to be sharing these beautiful photos now! Enjoy!
