A Family’s DIY Farm Wedding Ends the Day with Macedonian Traditions

This cozy and beautiful farm wedding took place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 on Aix La Chapelle Farm, in Poolesville, MD. The day was photographed by Sarah Mills with La Vie En Rose. The story of Natalie and Jack is a beautiful and sweet tale. They met during their time at the Naval Academy, but their relationship didn’t begin until after Jack asked Natalie’s grandfather, “Chief” for her number and permission to date her. They dated throughout the pandemic, where Jack continued to be Natalie’s anchor and took care of her when her family couldn’t due to COVID restrictions. Jack impressed Natalie’s family in many ways from day one, including cooking for them when visiting. The two lovebirds graduated from the Naval Academy together, and continued dating whilst training in the Marine Corps after graduation. Then the rest was history!
For their big day, Natalie had a specific vision and coming from a large family full of creative, talented people, she knew they could come together to pull it off. And pull it off they did! Her aunt did the flower arrangements incorporating flowers from her own garden, Natalie & her grandmother made the wedding cake, her Mom planned the wedding, and her other aunt coordinated the day-of. Natalie & Jack even harvested the very oysters that made their table seating chart while another aunt made the rose petal cups that everyone threw as Natalie & Jack made their exit! The reception was full of traditional Macedonian dances. Jack participated in what is called the Chesato— the Men’s Dance. This dance is always done with the immediate family of the bride, and the new groom. Her grandfather even had bought an accordion to learn and practice for 6 months prior to the wedding to learn the song and play for another traditional dance, involving and teaching the all of Natalie & Jack’s family and friends in attendance. With how much time and energy was dedicated from Natalie’s family to make the couple’s day a fairytale, we know that Natalie & Jack will be surrounded by love for the rest of their lives together.
