If there’s something that I wish I could photograph more, it would be small, intimate gatherings like Diya & David’s lovely engagement party that took place at Tudor Place in Washington, DC.  Over the last year, we’ve seen a lot more of these smaller gatherings and I have to admit they are some of my favorites! A smaller event can provide the ability to focus on the small details and also to spend more time with your guests!

I first met Diya & David at their engagement session at the MLK Jr. Memorial and Tidal Basin back in April of this year.  I felt like we hit it off from the start and they were truly so easy to photograph because of the way they naturally interacted with one another.  It’s so plain to see that Diya & David are truly meant for one another! 

When we talked about what they were envisioning for their engagement party, it was so clear that their focus was making this a wonderful experience for their guests, especially since their families would be meeting for the first time! David had family that flew in from Ecuador and Diya’s family is originally from Pakistan. When these families met, it truly was a joyous occasion and the mixing of these two cultures was absolutely beautiful!

Their engagement party was truly a celebration among their dearest family and friends! We were so thankful that impending rain held off and that they were able to have the most lovely garden party on the front of lawn of Tudor Place. Diya & David looked absolutely stunning together in their traditional outfits – Diya in a powder blue dress with incredible jewel details and jewelry and David in beige attire. I could not get over how perfect they looked! Some of my favorite highlights of the evening were Diya being walked into the party by her brother, the custom chocolate bars that had animated versions of Diya and David, the ring exchange, and the beautiful blue cake decorated with pastel flowers. It was such a lovely evening!
