Cheers to the last wedding of 2018!
This year, the HBP team was truly working until the very last second of the year! Alexandra & Jay were married on New Years Eve night, just a few hours before midnight. I was so thrilled when Kristin of Kelly Cannon Events connected me with Alexandra & Jay. Normally, I take NYE off, but I just could not resist working with this wonderful couple on their wedding day!
There was so much to love about Alexandra & Jay’s day. We first met last May, when I photographed their engagement session. Jay can make Alexandra smile and laugh so easily. Their chemistry is magnetic and we shot for way longer than usual! I couldn’t help myself! When I heard about the glamorous NYE they had planned, I started counting down the days to December 31, 2018!
Jay & Alexandra had so many unique touches to make their wedding day special. Alexandra’s wedding gown was custom made, and the dressmaker even came to help her get dressed! Jay made his own boutonnière, as well as the bouts for his groomsmen and they’re amazing (keep scrolling). The beaded topper that Alexandra wore was the perfect completion of her NYE outfit. She changed into the most perfect white-fringed party dress to dance in – literally the perfect combo of dresses! Jay & his groomsmen did a saber toast pre-ceremony, in which they literally cut the tops off of champagne bottles with sabers. Epic doesn’t come close to describing that moment!
The Hay Adams is known for having the most stunning view of the White House and monuments, and we planned to take advantage of this view for portraits. If you were in D.C. on NYE, you know that it poured down rain practically all day. I’ve rarely seen the sky so dark and gloomy! But, miraculously, we had a tiny break in the rain for about an hour so that Jay & Alexandra could get a few portraits overlooking the White House.
A few other favorite parts of the day include: Alexandra’s godfather walking her down the aisle, the creamy white floral arrangements, the most magical countdown to the New Year, and Jay hopping on the mic to sing Midnight Train to Georgia shortly after midnight (the man can sing!). All in all, this was a spectacular way to spend our NYE!
