Golden, glowing sun and a cool November breeze created the perfect atmosphere for Becky and Tommy’s engagement session in Old Town Alexandria last week! If you follow my work, you know I LOVE the mornings, and sunrise is my favorite time to shoot! There wasn’t anyone else around (except another couple having their engagement session!) and the light was absolutely incredible! Can you tell I’m excited based on all the exclamation points in this paragraph?!!

Becky got up at 3:15am for our shoot. What a champion! She and Tommy looked gorgeous together. They picked perfect fall outfits and have the most genuine smiles. Tommy is SO good at making Becky laugh and our whole session was filled with real laughter. So much fun!

If you’ve been following along with my blog this fall, you know I’ve been in Old Town a bunch for engagement sessions (like Sarah & Ryan or Grace & Steve)! Old Town Alexandria is such a lovely place for any kind of photography session because there is so much versatility. Boats, docks and tons of water create a nautical setting with beautiful sun. Tree-lined streets with pristine townhomes are quaint and quiet – the perfect spot for a romantic shoot. King Street has tons of shops and a huge fountain, which is another really fun spot to take couples for photos. The list goes on!

A little bit about Tommy & Becky: these two met right down the street from me in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington. Out with her friends at the now-closed Irish pub Ri Ra, Becky saw him from across the room and was immediately interested. Even though she was not usually the girl who makes the first move, she boldly struck up a conversation with Tommy, and the rest is history!

One thing I love about this couple is that they have such an authentic joy about being together. I first met them in October when they were looking for a wedding photographer. We met for drinks at Pepita in Ballston (DC friends, check this place out for tacos & margs!) and I really appreciated that they both were involved in the wedding planning process. Both of them had questions for me and obviously cared a lot about their choice for a wedding photographer, but were also relaxed and super fun to just hang out with. I was so thrilled when they officially asked me to be their photographer!

For a November morning, we truly lucked out with this gorgeous weather. It was a little chilly, but the sun was warm and Becky and Tommy were able to walk around Old Town without coats. It was SO hard to narrow down my favorites and took way longer than usual! I’m so excited to share this session with you all!

Tommy and Becky are getting married next October, let the wedding day countdown begin!
